Roe Deer

Description: The Roe deer is small in size. During the summer they are a reddish brown and their coat turns grey, pale brown or even black, when it gets closer to winter. Their tail is very small and surrounded by a white rump patch that also fades when the seasons change. Males are typically bigger than females and have small antlers that usually have two to three points. Young Roe deer have spots for the first six months of their life.

Habitat and Range: The deer originated from Scotland and was reintroduced to UK in the 19th century. They now can be found through out most of Europe. They usually occupy large open deciduous and coniferous woodlands as well as some suburbs with large gardens. They typically feed on shrubs and leaves, as well as acorns, conifers, fungi and other small plants.
