Berthelot's Pipit

Description:

Named after Sabin Berthelot, a french naturalist who lived in the canary islands. Small in size but has a relativity long bill and tail. Colour is mainly brownish-grey on it upper parts and a whitish underneath. The breast of the bird is clearly streaked with thin,short lines of dark greyish-brown. It also has greyish-brown streaks on crown and its eyes surrounding by a whitish-ring. Ear coverts (small feather covering the ear opening) are pale and framed by broad brownish-grey stripes that are located behind the eye. Both male and female characteristics are quite similar.

Length: 13-16 cm

Wingspan: 21-24 cm

These birds likes to forage for insects and seeds. You can usually find them in by themselves or with a partner , but ever so often you might find them in a small group. Their breeding season is from January to August and they tend to lay clutches of 5 eggs.

They are specific to Europe and are only in the Canary Islands and the Savage Islands.

At the moment this bird is considered a least concern and does not have any threats.
