Name (Scientific): Meles Meles

Name (Common): Eurasian Badger, European Badger

Appearance:

Can be distinguished by its black and white striped head. The rest of their body is mostly grey except for its feet stomach and throat which are black.

Distribution and Habitat:

They can be found in Asia, Europe, The Mediterranean, Russia, The United Kingdom and Wales. They build their underground setts in areas like, Oak and Beech Woods, Farmland, Mediterranean Forests, Parkland, Broadleaf Forests, Coniferous Forests, Temperate grasslands and Urban Spaces. Their setts consist of interconnecting tunnels that lead to nest chambers, toilets, and entrances/exists. These tunnel systems are passed down from the parents and are constantly being expanded.

Interesting Facts:

-They are nocturnal

-They are omnivorous and can eat several hundred earthworms in one night

-They are social creatures that live in groups

-They are territorial.
