Name (Scientific): Coronella Austriaca

Appearance:

Long and Slender, typically grey or brown with a less defined spotted black batter on its back.

Interesting Facts:

-The Smooth snake constricts its food before it swallows it whole.

-They Hibernate in the winter

-When they come out of hibernation, males fight for females by rearing up and then tangling around each other and squeezing until one gives up

-They can use Camouflage

-They molt (shed their skin)

Distribution and Habitat:

The Smooth snake can be found in Asia, Europe, The Mediterranean, Russia, and the United Kingdom. It typically lives in Bogs and Heathlands.
