Name: Silene Vellutata Delle Eolie (Silene Hicesiae)

Location: Panarea and Alicudi , on the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily

Description: Is a flowering and fruit bearing plant. There are five petals, pink to purplish in colour coming off a woody stem. The fruit is about 1 cm in size and has a lot of tiny brown seeds. It flowers in between May and June and the fruit matures around August and September.

IUCN Red List: Vulnerable species. Wildflowers, overeating by rabbits and invasive species like the Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus Altissima) put this species at risk.
